The Nature of God: What is it?
If you were to meet God what would his nature be? Would he be smiling? Or angry? Maybe he would be unjust and unfair? Or he would be a kind and merciful God wanting us to be the very best and enjoy to the highest.
Let’s look at these 20 Bible verses that reveal the nature of God and what he is like.
Before we start remember Jesus is the highest expression of God. The one who looks exactly like him.
How greatly we would be helped if we knew the character and nature of God
1. Love: “God is love” (1 John 4:8)
- God does not only love us he is love itself. This he proved on the cross.
- He took our place and died on our behalf. In another place, he says I have loved you with an everlasting love.
- As he is love himself, he will demonstrate it to us for eternity.
- God is love and it’s in his character to love and he loves you.
God is merciful
Mercy: “The Lord is merciful and gracious”
Psalm 103 v 8
- His mercy is our competitive advantage in this life. We are not destroyed because of his mercy.
- We often do the wrong thing repeatedly, but he still does good and protects us. His mercy helps and protects us even in our weakest points.
- David took advantage of this side of the nature of God the most and never lost even one battle.
- We are saved because he is merciful to us.
3. Justice:
“God is a righteous judge” (Psalm 50:6)
- His character will always be like that and the soul that sins shall die.
- He does what is right all the time.
- We can trust him with our hurts, our pains, and all the wrongs we had to endure. He will carry out justice for us.
He says the vengeance is mine, I shall repay.
- He is a just and righteous judge. Justice is a vital characteristic of the nature of God.
4. Faithfulness:
“God is faithful by whom you were called” (1 Corinthians 1:9)
He can be trusted. He does exactly what he says he will do. God fulfills his word and he shows up when he is needed.
- You can rely on God to do exactly what he said he would do.
- He cannot lie and he can not deny himself even if we are faithless he remains faithful. Moreover, he called you, imagine how much more he will do
He is not human he can’t lie .
5. Grace:
“God can make all grace abound to you” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
- If he is able to make all grace abound to us then he must be a graceful God.
- He is a gracious God and he is full of mercy.
Through his grace, we have been saved and given an inheritance with his dear son. What a wonderful way God showed us his nature
6. Holiness:
- “God’s nature is holy” (Isaiah 6:3)
There is no one like him and he is holy, separated.
- The nature of God is such that he cannot be defiled.
- He is in a class by himself. God by himself.
We can trust him that he will not be influenced by outside matters in his dealings with us. He is God the Most High
7. Wisdom Is God’s nature
“God is all-wise” (Romans 16:27)
- God is wise. He knows what he is doing
- and he knows what is the best thing that needs to be done.
- God’s nature makes him the embodiment of Wisdom
You can trust him to help you with your decisions every day through out your lifetime.
8. Power:
“God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask” (Ephesians 3:20)
- Not only is he all wise he is a also all powerful.
He is wise to know what needs to be done and powerful enough to carry it out .
There is nothing he cannot do ,nothing is too difficult for him - He can carry out what he promised
9. Compassion:
The Lord is of compassion” (Psalm 119:156)
- When Jesus was living here on earth the Bible says he felt compassion on them ,now and again.
He was tempted and suffered and he can relate with our suffering .
We can trust God to understand us and help us in our sufferings because he is compassion .
10. Truth:
“God is true” (John 3:33)
- Whatever God says is true because he is the embodiment of truth
- He is God and cannot lie .
- What he says becomes . We can trust God because of his character ,what he says about us
- If he said you are healed then you are healed . God is true
- He is a good and truthful God
11. Goodness:
“God is good” (Psalm 31:19)
- Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.
- He is a good and kind God it’s in his character and this verse tells us
- We are told and he has demonstrated it.
12. Patience:
“The Lord is slow to anger” (Psalm 103:8)
- The Lord is patient
- Patience is a virtue of love and because God loves us ,he demonstrates it in patience
- Forgiveness:
- “God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins” (1 John 1:9)
- He fulfills what he said he would do , he said he will be our God and us his people and he will forgive our sins
14. Sovereignty:
“God is sovereign over all kingdoms” (Daniel 4:17)
No one can question God what he does or says .He is Sovereign ,all powerful .
15. Peace:
“God is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14)
The pains that were on Jesus became our peace .
Now God himself is the source and sustainer of our peace .
16. Righteousness:
“God is righteous in all His ways” (Psalm 145:17)
Sinless Jesus became sin on the cross. so that sinful me and you could become the righteousness of God in Christ
17. Generosity:
“God is able to make all grace abound to you” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
He is generous and he has given us all the earth and everything that belongs to him in Christ
18. Humility:
“God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6)
God loves humble people and he lifts them and promotes them .
19. Creativity:
“God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)
God is the creator , his nature is that of a creative nature . How we would be helped if we looked at him
20. Faithfulness:
“God remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2:13)
God is faithful to his word and character even if we are not .
