Who you are in Christ: A reminder of God’s Character
As you pray or go about your day there comes a moment when everything around you needs to be reminded of who you are in Christ and what God has done for you
. Sometimes it is you who needs to be reminded how blessed you are. Fortunately, God has made it super clear in his word what he has done for us and what we mean to him.
We only need to carry ourselves with boldness and our heads held high.
Here are some of the things God has done for you and what he has made you to be.
1 You are blessed : Its who you are in Christ
All praise be to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus
Ephesians 1 vs 3
among all the things blessed means it also means:
- Holy,
- favored,
- separated,
- beautiful,
- joyful,
- and a lot more.
For me, it is something to shout about. The King of Kings favors you. This means God is smiling right at you in his grace.
When you look at all the people who God blessed, you’ll notice that God was always on their side. The blessing of God not only makes you spiritually blessed but physically also.
Abraham the father of faith showed this in his life. The blessing is God’s countenance towards us.
It is God saying it is alright I will be with you. I will be your shelter, your love, and your armor. If you are Christ’s then are you heirs of the promise.
You are blessed with every spiritual blessing and it’s all that matters.
2 You are Chosen in Christ
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be Holy and without blame in his eyes
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)
Even before time,, you were special to God and he chose you to be his, blameless and holy. God does not find you at fault once you are in Jesus
. He chose you so that he could love you, forgive you, and shower you with his blessings. You are his beloved because you are in Christ.
He paid for you so that you could be his own so you are chosen. You are chosen to be in God’s special lineage, to be gifted and God has a glorious destiny for you.
A new life and a new hope is what the Lord chose you for, to be an expression of his glory and grace. Isn’t that amazing?
3 You were adopted
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ
Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)
God is a perfect father and we are his perfect family, He chose us and made room at his table for us. We are now sons and daughters of the King.
You and me, we are the King’s kids. God became our Father when we received Jesus. We have rights to his presence, love, and grace power.
You can go to him and say Hello Dad. Who you are in Christ now makes you children of light and the Father of Lights is your father.
4 You were redeemed
In Whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace
Ephesian 1 :7 (KJV)
God bought us back by giving his son as a ransom to purchase us because he wanted us. God wants you. He paid the full price for your forgiveness and released you.
He set you free by paying for your ransom. You were redeemed and released because Jesus paid for you with his blood.
Your life was exchanged for God’s life. You are free and redeemed.
5 You are loved
Even before he made the world God loved us …
Ephesian 1:4 (NLT)
God went great distances to express his love. He gave his only son to save us. The God who is self-sufficient, almighty, invincible, and lives outside time became a man and walked on the earth. He now could get tired, get thirsty, and die.
All this so that he would eventually die for you and me. There is no greater love than for a person to lay down his life for his friends.
God laid down his own life for our sake. Having loved you, he loved you to the very end. You are his beloved and he loves you dearly
6 Forgiven
He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his son and forgave our sins (NLT)
God does not remember your sins anymore. Remember you are a new creature in Christ. As far as the east is from the west that’s how far the Lord has thrown your sins away.
We are blameless in Christ. The Lord had promised earlier that he would remember our sins no more. In Christ, the promise is a reality.
You are forgiven, justified, and blameless according to the Word. Abraham believed in God and it was counted to him as righteousness.
7 Sealed
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:in whom also after that ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of Promise.
Ephesians 1 :13
The Lord has set a seal upon you to mark you for protection, for victory,, and for his blessings. You are marked as his precious treasure.
This means the Lord has confirmed you and he has determined that you are authentic. God has put his seal on you that you are what he says.
You are marked for protection, salvation, favor, and victory by the Holy Ghost.
8 You are free
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free
John 8:36
God has set you free from death, sin, and from sickness. Your freedom was purchased by the blood of Jesus on the cross.
Though it was costly, God purchased your freedom from the blood.his own Son. God chose you to set you free from the law of sin and death.
He made you alive. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Knowing Jesus is what sets you free.
That’s how your freedom is guaranteed. You are free indeed if the Son has indeed set you free. You are indeed free in His Grace.
When you received the Lord this is what you also accepted. Before time. God chose you to be his family. He chose you to be free. He redeemed you so that he could live in fellowship with you. You are loved, blessed, forgiven, sealed. Jesus loves you.
